I thought things had been suspiciously quiet on the comments front for some time.
It turns out that, during an earlier update to my child theme’s CSS, I inadvertently changed both the comment text and the “Post Comment” button to the same colour as the background.
So, even if somebody realised their typing was actually there—just invisible—they still wouldn’t have been able to find the equally invisible button needed to post it. An impressively thorough way of disabling comments without actually disabling them.
I’ve always believed in putting my hand up and admitting to my rare mistakes, so here I am, hand raised.
It’s fixed now. Apologies to anyone who tried to leave a comment and understandably concluded that the website was broken.
