Today I took a drive down to Chapel-en-le-Frith to visit The Trike Guy. Been thinking about a trike (Rewaco) as a means of getting the wind in my hair again… over 2 years without being on a bike now. My intention really was to just take a casual and restrained look, make sure I’d fit on one and see how they felt.
They have an amazing and extensive collection of trikes… Harley Freewheelers, Can-Am, Rewaco and even a couple of iconic Boom trikes – not seen those around for a while. Josh, the main guy there, is cool, knowledgeable and enthusiastic – demonstrating impressive patience with a lumbering scratch hazard on a crutch drooling over his stock (I was careful) – even showed me the easiest and most dignified way to mount them (obvious once you’ve been shown). Big plus – kept the coffee coming and even carried it around for me.
Some truly beautiful machines, but the one that caught my eye and made me feel most comfortable was the Rewaco PUR 3 GT – 35 year edition – in Solar Yellow. He started it up for me and that was that. So, long story short, buying this bad boy. So new it’s not even registered yet – so likely going for personal plate on it too… I think this means I’ve reached that point in life where I’m comfortable if people look, judge and quietly roll their eyes.

The bandage there is because I’ve just had the last of the metalwork pulled from the right wrist (volar locking plate) – they were going to leave it alone but we think one of the screws was impinging on the joints somewhere.
This is honestly the most excited I’ve been since the accident…
The Trike Guy is based in Chapel-en-le-Frith, a small High Peak market town founded by the Normans in the 12th century — its Anglo-Norman name meaning ‘chapel in the forest’. Long known as the Capital of the High Peak, it sits right on the historic fault line between south and north: lowland and moor, Saxon and Viking, rolling hills and limestone valleys. It’s always been a place of meeting and transition — which feels oddly appropriate.
I’m really looking forward to picking the trike up and riding it home through some of the best scenery this green and pleasant land has to offer.
If you’re thinking about a trike… go see them.
